SIG (MASCARA)- Nearly nine months after Algeria’s senior national football team (Desert Warriors) won the Arab title in Doha, Algerian junior team snatched the U17 Arab title, Thursday evening, in Sig, Mascara, after beating Moroccan opponents in penalty shootout (4-2) following a draw (1-1) in the regular time.
The Moroccans opened the scoring through Mahamed Archidi (51st), but Tayeb Chehima set the record straight in the 90th minute of the game.
The U-17 Desert Warriors were determined to win the Arab Cup after a positive and distinguished performance at all levels, as evidenced by occupying the leadership in the group stage with 9 points and scoring 10 full goals against the teams of Palestine, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, while also overcoming the obstacle of the quarter-finals against Tunisia and the semi-finals against Saudi Arabia.
The next official meeting of the Algerian U17 selection will take place in April 2023, on the occasion of the final phase of the African Under-17 Cup qualifying for the World Cup in the same category.
