ALGIERS- Political parties valued, on Wednesday, the decision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to submit the preliminary draft of the revision of the Constitution to debate and enrichment, while others pleaded for a “realistic evaluation” of the repercussions of the crisis and the protection of the achievements of the Algerian nation.

The National Understanding Movement (MEN) welcomed “the respect of the President of the Republic for his commitment and the submission to political actors of the preliminary draft of the constitutional revision for enrichment”.

He urged, in this sense, all political partners, actors of civil society and experts to “a serious participation by the formulation of visions and proposals with a view to enriching the content of the document and covering all shortcomings. ”

“We need to build an Algerian State that meets the aspirations of all its children ,” the party said in its statement.

For the El Bina Movement, moreover, the project of the new Constitution “is to be placed among great reforms and submitted to a deep dialogue”, as proposed in its initiative, more than 3 months ago.

The El Bina Movement reiterated,in a press release, its call, through this initiative, to “political appeasement and social service”, affirming that the priority is political, economic and social reforms capable of enabling Algeria to “correct the mistakes of the past, overcome the aftermath of political and financial corruption and move forward to get out of the crisis (…)”.

Making preliminary observations on the preliminary draft of the constitutional revision relating to national security and the aspects relating to corruption, the same political group argued for a broad debate on the project for “a real completion” of the requirements of the new Algeria.

In its press release, the El Bina Movement called “() for responsible change, a realistic evaluation of the repercussions of the crisis, real care for the categories affected by this crisis, the protection of the achievements of the Algerian Nation , in particular the preservation of the cohesion of the national decision and the protection of the strategic interests of the country from partisan negotiations “.

For its part, the Ennahdha Movement considered that the amendments introduced in the preliminary draft of constitutional revision reflect “a true political orientation”, adding that the jurisprudence of the Commission “went beyond the axes of the announced amendment” and that “the nature of the mode of governance has not been clearly defined”.

For the Ennahdha Movement, the proposal to appoint a vice-president of the Republic “contradicts the idea of limiting the prerogatives of the President and the balance of powers”.

“The amendments contained in the document include articles which should not appear at all,” he said.

The proposals of the Committee of Experts revolve around six axes, namely “fundamental rights and public freedoms”, “strengthening the separation between powers and their balance”, “the judiciary”, “the constitutional court “,” transparency, prevention and the fight against corruption “, and” the Independent National Election Authority “.
