Algerian Parliament’s Lower House, Mauritanian parliamentary delegation tackle parliamentary cooperation

ALGIERS- The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Community at the People’s National Assembly (APN), Mohamed Hani, held, Thursday at the headquarters of the assembly, a meeting with a Mauritanian parliamentary delegation led by Mokhtar Ould Khelifa, president of the Commission for External Relations at the Mauritanian National Assembly, said a statement from the body.

Algeria and Mauritania maintain historic relations, which reflects their attachment to further strengthening cooperation links in various fields and coordinating on issues of common interest, especially since there is a convergence of views on the need to support the factors of peace, security and stability in the region “, underlined Mr. Hani.

This exchange of visits between parliamentarians “will make it possible to consolidate the bonds of friendship, reconcile views and find the appropriate frameworks for coordination and joint action, ”he added.

During this meeting, the two parties discussed “the various issues and challenges facing Africa and the Arab world as well as ways to strengthen security and stability”, welcoming “the central role played by Algeria in the region and the Arab world.

The Algerian official highlighted that the lower house of parliament intends to set up a parliamentary friendship group with the Mauritanian national assembly, hoping that this approach will allow bilateral cooperation to be raised to the highest levels.

Regarding international relations, Mr. Hani reiterated that Algeria remains attached to its positions which reject interference in the internal affairs of countries, while advocating respect for UN legality, particularly with regard to causes of self-determination, like the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples.

For his part, the head of the Mauritanian parliamentary delegation highlighted “the depth of relations between the two countries…. relations which have reached their peak over the past two years thanks to the wisdom of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Mauritanian President, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazaouani “, welcoming” the central role that Algeria plays at the political, diplomatic and economic levels “.

He hoped that Mauritania would be “the economic gateway to Algeria at the African level”, specifying that the construction of the road connecting Tindouf (Algeria) to Zouerate (Mauritania) over a distance of 775 km will allow Algeria and Mauritania to launch a pioneering economic and commercial dynamic in our border region. ”He also wished the success of the Arab summit scheduled for next March in Algiers.

It is worth recalling that the Mauritanian President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani paid a state visit to Algeria, during which he held talks with President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania arrived Monday in Algiers.

He was welcomed, upon his arrival at Houari Boumediene international airport, by President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

This visit comes within the framework of the strengthening of the bilateral relations and cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

During this visit, Algeria and Mauritania signed, Tuesday, a number of cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding related to several spheres.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Presidency of the Republic, was co-chaired by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his Mauritanian counterpart.

A cooperation agreement in the field of higher education and scientific research, was signed by the Minister of the Sector, Mr. AbdelbakiBenziane, and his Mauritanian counterpart, Amal Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi.

An executive program for the years 2022/2024/2023 was also signed by the aforementioned ministers.

Meanwhile, a protocol of cooperation agreement in the field of health was signed by the Minister of the Sector, AbderrahmaneBenbouzid, and the Mauritanian Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, TalebOuld Sid Ahmed, as well as a memorandum of understanding in the field of vocational training signed by the Minister of Professional Training and Education, YacineMirabi. and his Mauritanian counterpart.

A memorandum of understanding in the sector of micro-enterprises, was signed on the Algerian side by the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of micro-enterprises, Nassim Diafat, and on the Mauritanian side by the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training.

To this end, President Tebboune highlighted during a joint press conference with his Mauritanian counterpart that the Mauritanian president’s visit is an opportunity to enrich the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation between the two countries by signing a number of agreements related to many sectors.

And to add : “The Mauritanian president’s visit also comes as a prelude to expanding cooperation to other fields and creating favorable conditions for businessmen and economic dealers in order to contribute to enhancing economic and commercial cooperation and building a strong partnership.”

In this aspect, President Tebboune insisted on the start of the construction of the Tindouf-Zouerat road.

Meanwhile, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani dubbed his visit to Algeria as “fruitful and constructive,” as it “allows to raise the relations of cooperation between the two countries to the level of brotherhood and friendship that binds the two brotherly peoples.”

He underlined that the bonds of cooperation between Algeria and his country are “broad, diverse and rooted in history”, noting that this visit represents an “opportunity to consolidate relations of cooperation”, which was reflectedby the signing of many agreements covering “important sectors”.
