ALGIERS- Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in electric power production, transmission and distribution is to be signed between Algeria and Tanzania, the minister of Energy and Mining, Mohamed Arkab, said Thursday in Algiers.
The Minister of Energy of the Federal Republic of Tanzania, January Yusuf Makamba, on Thursday, paid a visit to the electrical infrastructures belonging to the Sonelgaz group in Algiers.
During this visit, the Tanzanian minister visited the Algerian Electricity Production Company (SPE) of El Hamma and the headquarters of the System Operator (OS) in Gué de Constantine, said a statement from Sonelgaz.
Mr. Makamba was accompanied by the CEO of Sonelgaz, Chaher Boulakhras, group executives, officials from the Tanzanian Ministry of Energy and the Tanzanian ambassador in Algiers.
Explanations were provided to the Tanzanian minister and the accompanying delegation on the operation of the El Hamma station and a short film was screened to publicize the Algerian electricity production company.
The delegation, also, paid a visit to the headquarters of the System Operator (OS) in Gué de Constantine to inquire about its operation.
At the end of this visit, Mr. Makamba said he was impressed by Sonelgaz’s efforts to guarantee electricity coverage across the entire national territory, expressing the will to accomplish joint work in the service of the interests of the two countries , especially since Algeria “has taken great strides in the field of energy”, he pointed out.
For his part, Mr. Boulakhras stressed that “this visit is part of the strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation in the field of energy, particularly the electricity component”, indicating that “fruitful meetings were held with the companies active in this field, namely; the Zeco company of Zanzibar and the Tanzanian National Company “.
He said that the meetings held with these two companies by videoconference were sanctioned by a memorandum of understanding which will be signed in the coming weeks, the press release concluded.
