ALGIERS- On the eve of the celebration of Knowledge Day (Yaoum El Ilm), the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, sent a message, the translation of which is as follows:
“In the name of Allah, the most Merciful and the most Grateful,
Prayers and peace on the Seal of the prophets,
Dear citizens,
The Day of Knowledge, one of the key dates of National Memory, coincides, this year, with the first blessed days of the holy month………… congratulations to all of us on these two occasions.
Last year, we had been deprived of this joyous celebration.
Praise be to Allah for having offered us, after a year of patience and sustained effort and the decline of the Covid-19 epidemic, a better situation allowing our people to celebrate this Day in tribute to Algerian scholars, researchers, thinkers, intellectuals and artists in all areas of creativity.
Dear sisters, dear brothers,
Our people have decreed the date of the disappearance of the reformer scholar Sheikh Abdelhamid Ibn Badis, a symbol day of celebration of knowledge and scholars, consecrating this tradition as a beacon illuminating an important part of our history.
This is the period when our scholar Sheikh and his companions, men of knowledge and veneration of the homeland, stood up against hateful colonial plans aimed at concealing national identity and destroying its foundations: religion, language and culture.
To do this, he embarked, peace in his soul, on an authentic national pat,h fighting against ignorance and illiteracy.
Dear sisters, dear brothers,
The Algerian people who do not forget the avant-garde role of Sheikh Abdelhamid Ibn Badis, the Association of Algerian Muslim Ulemas and the Augustus Ulemas and Chouyoukh of the Zaouia in the preservation of the identity of the Algerian nation, its heritage and the components of its national identity, and in the fight against charlatanism, today aspires by being attached to its identity and relying on its potential, to efficient policies to fully address the problems of the present and meet the challenges of tomorrow . Policies based on a real investment in the human element through the acquisition of knowledge and science, mastery of technology and investment in the world of information technology and communications.
The democratic process is the choice of free and sovereign Algeria … It counts, in addition to the consolidation of the foundations of peace and security, among the objectives linked to the supreme interest of the country that we are working to achieve by combining the efforts of state institutions, the political class and civil society actors.
I call on, on this day of national memory, Algerian society, in all its component, to express itself during the coming political elections, in complete freedom and by the most civilized means possible for the choice of its representatives, in the light of the internal and external challenges encountered.
In this regard, I remain confident that the children of Algeria will move forward to lay this important milestone in the building of a new Algeria, and that their determination cannot be undermined by the deceptions of those who got bogged down in the twists of destabilization and division.
I want to take this opportunity, also to urge our children, pupils and students in schools, universities, institutes and training centers to chart their way to success through hard work, knowledge and moral rigor.
May Algeria celebrate knowledge and scholars every year, May Allah approve your fast,
Glory and Pride to our valiant Chouhada,
