30 grain storage projects to be launched soon

TLEMCEN (Algeria)- Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing Cherif Omari said Thursday that 30 grain storage facility projects are to be launched soon in various parts of the country.

After receiving a presentation on the situation of the agriculture and forestry sectors in Tlemcen as part of his inspection visit to the province, the Minister announced the recent reception of nine similar structures across the country, pending the launch of new projects to achieve storage capacity 40,000 quintals of cereals.

He said that in accordance with the instructions of the Prime Minister, all measures were taken and facilities were granted to grain producers to provide them with grain collection points, simplify administrative procedures and access to credit to provide better working conditions.

Umari said that the grain industry is strategic and important and that every effort will be made to improve procedures for producers, which will have a positive impact on the rationalization of imports and the enhancement of food security.

The minister also insisted on encouraging farmers to adopt the technique of drip irrigation to save water and due to the importance of this operation on agricultural products, especially market gardeners and citrus fruits.

“It is necessary to involve the citizens especially the residents of the pastoral and agricultural zones, to encourage them to benefit from credit in order to plant the greatest number of trees and to accompany the program of rehabilitation of the Green dam for which all the means and energies are mobilized with the aim of rehabilitating all steppe areas and their protection against desertification, “he said.

The minister has instructed, in this sense, the leaders of the forest sector of the province to engage in sensitization of citizens living near these areas and to supervise them by activating the role of university potentialities and scientific research centers to bring solutions to problems and study plant species and their adaptation in steppe areas.

The minister’s visit was also marked by the inauguration of a public grain storage facility in Ain Talout with a capacity of 300,000 quintals and a dairy in Maghnia carried out as part of private investment.
