5 cooperation agreements inked between Algeria and Ethiopia

Five cooperation agreements have been inked, between Algeria and Ethiopia, in the works of the 4th session of the Algerian-Ethiopian joint ministerial committee, held Thursday in Algiers, in which the both countries have expressed their commitment to giving a new impetus to bilateral relations, APS reported on Friday.

The 5 agreements have been inked, during a ceremony chaired by both of Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramtane Lamamra, and his Ethiopian counterpart Workneh Gebeyhu.

Three agreements have been related with the fields of trade, communication, protection of vegetation and plant quarantine, while two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) related to livestock, fisheries and water resources.

The committee’s achievement has been hailed by the Algerian official, who stressed that the inking of these agreements aims at giving a new impetus to bilateral economic cooperation, as well as raising partnership to the level of the particular political relations between the both countries.”

For the Algerian official, it is a way that “will bring new prospects for boosting partnership between the both countries, and diversifying cooperation fields, like trade and railway.

For this purpose, Lamamra has stressed the importance of involving the private sector to realize its aim, through the multiplication of exchanges between economic operators of both countries.

Besides, Lamamra announced the project to “launch a new direct airline between the two countries by the end of 2017, with a view to increase economic cooperation and bringing closer both peoples.”

The Ethiopian foreign minister has highlighted “the convergence of views” between both countries, and pleaded for “an intensification of political dialogue” at the bilateral, continental and international levels.
