Employed by the English-speaking antenna of Al-Jazeera, Australian Peter Greste, the Egyptian-Canadian Mohamed Fadel Fahmy and Egyptian Baher Mohamed were arrested in late December 2013. In June, they were sentenced to seven years in prison, a sentence that sparked an international outcry.

After a short hearing at which the detainees were not present, the Supreme Court ordered a new trial, requested by the prosecution and the defense, according to counsel for Mr. Greste Amr al Deeb.

A trial date has not been set and the three journalists, accused of distributing "false information" in support of the Muslim Brotherhood movement of Mohamed Morsi, the Islamist president deposed by the army in July 2013, will remain in custody .
