Swine flu: More than 700 cases registered in Egypt

CAIRO - Twenty-three Egyptians have recently been infected with H1N1 virus, bringing the number of cases of swine flu in Egypt to more than 700, said Friday evening the spokesman of the Ministry of Health, quoted by the official MENA news agency.

  •     Of the 703 patients, 559 were cured. The others are hospitalized and are in a “stable state," said Abderrahmane Chahine.

For now, only one death from this virus has been registered in Egypt. The victim was a woman of 25 returning from a pilgrimage in Mecca.

The swine flu, first declared pandemic of the twenty-first century on June 11 by the World Health Organization (WHO), has killed at least 2185 people and left 209,438 patients in over 177 countries, according to a statement that the organization emphasizes the non-exhaustive aspect.

Countries are in fact no longer required to undertake analysis and systematic statistics. Only the first cases and the statistics of fatal cases must necessarily be reported to the organization.
