ALGIERS- Several operations were carried out, in the past week (November 16-22, 2022), by detachments and units of the People’s National Army, as part of their noble missions to defend and secure the national territory against all forms of threats, demonstrating the unwavering and unfailing commitment of the Armed Forces to maintain peace and security in the country, said the Ministry of National Defense in a statement.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, combined detachments of the ANP arrested seven (07) elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations carried out across the national territory”.

“As part of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the sustained efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the People’s National Army arrested, in coordination with the various security services during operations carried out through the Military Regions, 50 drug traffickers and foiled attempts to introduce huge quantities of drugs from the borders with Morocco, amounting to 14 quintals and 50 kilograms of treated Hashish, while 25 kilograms of cocaine and 47,810 psychotropic tablets were seized,” the statement said.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Djanet and Tindouf, detachments of the ANP “intercepted 98 individuals and seized 39 vehicles, 149 generators, 66 jackhammers, 13 metal detectors, 8 tons of raw gold and stones, as well as detonation tools and equipment used in illicit gold panning operations”, added the same communiqué.

According to the same source, “18 individuals were arrested and 11 hunting rifles, 2 automatic pistols, quantities of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation amounting to 130 tons, as well as 53,000 packets of tobacco and 17,685 units of various beverages were seized in separate operations across the national territory”.

In the same context, “the Border Guards thwarted, in coordination with the services of the National Gendarmerie, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to 27,076 liters in Tébessa, Souk Ahras, El-Tarf and Tamanrasset, while 123 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory”.
