ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune received Sunday in Algiers, the Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama.

The meeting took place in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra and the Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz Khellaf.

A bilateral agreement on the creation of an Algerian-Nigerian Business Council was signed, on Saturday, in Algiers, following a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, and his Nigerian counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama.

A statement issued by the ministry said, “A bilateral agreement was signed in the presence of the two ministers, providing for the setting-up of an Algerian-Nigerian business council with the aim of bringing the economic operators of both countries closer and increasing the volume of bilateral trade exchanges.”

The talks that took place during a face to face meeting between the two ministers, and which were later expanded to a broader working session, focusing on the strategic relations between Algeria and Nigeria and the prospects for strengthening them in various fields, the same source added.

The ministry’s statement indicated that in addition to the satisfactory “quality and sustainability” of the political and historical relations between the two countries, the talks between Lamamra and Onyeama allowed to emphasize the commitment of the two sides to implementing the structured projects that were jointly undertaken in the economic field, especially the gas pipeline linking Algeria and Nigeria, the Trans-Saharan road, and the fiber-optic cable.

It’s worth recalling that Mr. Onyeama is on a working visit to Algeria, as part of the regular political consultations between the two countries.
