Arab Summit: President of Non-Aligned Movement, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrives in Algiers


ALGIERS- The Azerbaijani President, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, in his capacity as Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, arrived, Tuesday, in Algiers as guest of honor of the 31st session of the Arab Summit, slated for Tuesday and Wednesday in Algiers.

Several Arab leaders arrive in Algiers to take part in the 31st Arab Summit:

Several Arab leaders arrived, Monday in Algiers, to take part in the 31st ordinary session of the Arab Summit, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, and placed under the slogan “The unification of ranks and the bolstering of joint Arab action”.

From the beginning of the afternoon, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, welcomed, at Houari Boumediene international airport, in turn, the President of the Comoros Islands, Mr. Azali Assoumani, the President of the State of Palestine, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mr. Mohamed Younes Al-Menfi, the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Tunisian President Kais Saied, the President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, as well as the President of Mauritania, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani.

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan, Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen, Mr. Rachad Mohammed Ali Al-Alimi, and the President of Iraq, Mr. Abdellatif Djamel were also welcomed by President Tebboune, as well as the current Chairman of the African Union (AU), Mr. Macky Sall, in his capacity as guest of honor at the Arab Summit.

Lebanon is represented at this summit by the President of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister), Najib Mikati, Bahrain by the Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, special representative of the King of Bahrain, while the Sultanate of Oman is represented by the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Relations and International Cooperation Affairs, special representative of the Sultan of Oman, Asa’ad Ben Tariq Al Said, who were welcomed, upon their arrival in Algiers, by the Prime Minister, Aïmene Benabderrahmane .

For his part, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UNSG), António Guterres, arrived, this morning, in Algiers. Upon his arrival at Houari-Boumediene International Airport in Algiers, he was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra.

The other Arab leaders are expected during the next hours to take part in the summit.

An official welcome was reserved for the guests of Algeria who were greeted by senior officials, headed by the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Abou El-Gheit, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra.

Algiers’ Arab Summit, slated for November 01-02, 2022, would be the most important in the history of the Arab summits especially after the success of Algeria’s effort to gather the Palestinian factions to sign a reconciliation agreement on Oct. 13, formally known as: “the Declaration of Algiers”.

The latest developments in the Palestinian cause will top the Arab summit agenda, especially in light of the Zionists practices against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, in addition to African-European-Arab region relations for free trade, economy, investment and trade exchange.

The summit is scheduled to discuss a number of draft resolutions to end inter-Arab differences and restore calm in order to achieve stability and development for the Arab peoples.
