Signing of Algiers’ Declaration by Palestinian factions: Algeria’s pivotal role welcomed internationally


ALGIERS- The signing of the Declaration of Algiers by the Palestinian factions following the conference for the unification of the Palestinian ranks was welcomed by several countries which hailed Algeria’s pivotal role and initiative.

Thus, the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, on Saturday welcomed the signing of the “Algiers Declaration” which is intended to be “an important step towards the Palestinian reconciliation desired by all Arabs”, welcoming the role of Algeria in this achievement.

The Arab Parliament, for its part, affirmed that “the Algiers Declaration” represents “a positive and important step on the right path towards the recovery of Palestinian unity”, praising the efforts of Algeria which sponsored the dossier of Palestinian national reconciliation.

For the Arab Parliament, the Algiers Declaration “comes in response to the efforts of Algeria which succeeded in bringing the points of view closer and putting an end to the discord between the Palestinian brothers”.

Welcoming the signing of this historic document, the Sultanate of Oman, through a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated its support for any move aimed at achieving the unity of the Palestinian people, so as to realize their aspirations and their legitimate rights, welcoming “the remarkable efforts made by the Algerian Republic, a sisterly country, which sponsored and hosted the discussions”.

Qatari diplomacy considered that the signing of the agreement was a “positive step on the road to national unity and the consolidation of the national project of establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East-Al Quds as its capital”.

Qatar expressed the deep gratitude to “the Algerian Republic, a sisterly country, for its role in sponsoring inter-Palestinian talks.

In Tripoli, Nouakchott, and Tunis the Algiers Declaration was described as a “positive step on the road to national unity and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital”, hailing the tireless efforts deployed by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, with a view to reunifying the Palestinian ranks and concretizing this historic success and ironing out all the difficulties which stand in the way of Palestinian unity”.

For his part, the President of the Saharawi Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, hailed the Algiers Declaration crowning the Conference for the Unification of Palestinian Ranks and the central role of Algeria for Palestinian national reconciliation.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President Ghali hailed a “historic meeting” and “all those who have contributed to this noble effort crowned by the Algiers Declaration in favor of the unification of Palestinian ranks”.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Jordanian Expatriates, Ayman Al-Safadi, hailed the efforts of Algeria crowned by the signing, by the Palestinian factions, of the “Algiers Declaration” for the Palestinian national reconciliation, describing it as “indispensable” to serve the Palestinian cause and meet the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Like the Arab countries, Russia hailed the role of Algeria in the conclusion of this agreement which paves the way for the restoration of Palestinian unity, stressing that Moscow “has always and invariably come out in favor of the union of the Palestinian ranks” .

China welcomed the signing of the “Algiers Declaration” and commended Algeria’s efforts in this regard, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning.

“China has always supported the intra-Palestinian reconciliation process and is convinced that it will contribute to strengthening Palestinian unity and promoting peace talks” between the State of Palestine and the Zionist entity.

For the Office of the European Union (EU) in the occupied West Bank and in the Gaza Strip, the signing by the Palestinian factions of the “Declaration of Algiers”, constitutes “encouraging news, calling to intensify efforts for genuine Palestinian political unity and to agree on a timetable for democratic national elections, which are essential to ensure the democratic legitimacy of Palestinian political representatives and institutions”.

Ankara also congratulated Algeria “for its permanent contributions to the reconciliation process between the Palestinians that Turkey has always supported”, added the press release, while hoping for the implementation of the points included in the “Declaration of ‘Algiers’, in particular the organization of the elections.
