East Timor’s President salutes Algeria’s glorious revolutionary history, expresses desire to propel bilateral ties

NEW YORK- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, was received, on Saturday in New York, by the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Mr. José Ramos-Horta, as part of his participation in the work of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

On this occasion, the head of the Algerian diplomacy transmitted to the Timorese President the fraternal greetings of his brother, President Tebboune, as well as his warm congratulations following his recent election as President.

For his part, the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, welcomed the deep ties uniting the two peoples, based on solidarity and the struggle for liberation, saluting the Glorious revolutionary history of Algeria that has always supported the rights of colonized peoples, including the right of the people of East Timor to self-determination and independence in 2002.

The meeting afforded the opportunity to review the means of strengthening bilateral relations in their political and economic aspects, and to address regional and international issues of common interest, including the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes.
