Diplomacy: President Tebboune receives Pakistan’s new ambassador to Algeria


ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune received Thursday, in Algiers, Muhammed Tariq, who handed him his credentials accrediting him as Pakistan’s new ambassador to Algeria.

The audience took place at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, and the Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Mr Abdelaziz Khellaf.

Noting that the two nations formally established diplomatic ties in 1958. Additionally, both nations belong to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The main exports from Pakistan to Algeria are textile, sports equipment, and rice.

Last March, Algeria-Pakistan parliamentary group was installed at the headquarters of the People’s National Assembly (APN), constituting a space for consultation and exchange to further strengthen relations between the two countries. The installation ceremony was chaired by the Vice-Speaker of the APN, Moundir Bouden in the presence of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Algiers, Muhammed Tariq and the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the national community abroad.

In a speech on the occasion, Mr. Bouden indicated that the installation of this parliamentary group constituted a “framework for consultation and exchange with the aim of consolidating relations between Algeria and Pakistan, which was among the first countries to have recognized the provisional government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) during the national revolution, in 1958”, adding that these relations “draw their foundations from the common will from both sides to work for the realization of an international regime, in which the sovereignty of countries is respected”.

In this regard, Mr. Bouden highlighted “Algeria’s determination to develop its relations with Pakistan, particularly in terms of tourism and the pharmaceutical industry, while taking advantage of the available opportunities”.

For his part, the Pakistani ambassador praised the “efforts exerted by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Speaker of the APN, Brahim Boughali, aimed at strengthening the role of parliamentary democracy as well as the roles of delegations in terms of the consolidation of bilateral relations”.

He also stressed “the importance of parliamentary groups in the face of the challenges imposed”, adding that Algeria “is an important and effective country both at the African level and within the the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) given its pioneering role in supporting peace”.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community abroad highlighted “the importance of exchanging visits between officials of the two countries in order to strengthen cooperation and consultation on issues of common interest as well as boost bilateral relations in the economic sphere”.
