Bamako: Algerian FM Lamamra chairs meeting of International Mediation Group on Mali

ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, chaired, Saturday in Bamako, the meeting of the international mediation group on Mali dedicated to assessing the implementation of peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali stemming from Algiers process, according to Foreign Affairs ministry statement.

In this context, the statement indicated that “in light of the outcomes of the sixth high-level session of the Follow-up Committee for the Implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, held yesterday, the international mediation meeting culminated in a frank and transparent exchange on the progress recorded and the remaining challenges that the Malian parties must raise in order to complete the achievement of the peace process.”

“While confirming their continued support for the Malian parties on their path towards peace and reconciliation, the participants expressed their satisfaction with the new dynamism in the implementation of the agreement, thanks to the resumption of the activities of the Follow-up Committee for the Implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali stemming from the Algiers process,” adds the same source.

The statement added that the participants “took the opportunity to pay tribute to Algeria’s important role as the leader of international mediation and chairperson of the Follow-up Committee and a neighboring country that has always been strongly committed to bringing the path of peace and reconciliation to safety and its effective solidarity with Mali at all times.”

The meeting also highlighted “the need for the international community to increase its commitment and multi-form support to the peace path to strengthen the transition and facilitate the return of constitutional order as well as the promotion of permanent peace in Mali.”

On this occasion, the statement adds, it was agreed on concrete measures to enable international mediation to intensify its role in initiating, accompanying and following up on the implementation of the agreement, especially during the critical stages expected soon.

The statement concluded that “the mediation welcomed the results of the sixth high-level session of the Committee to Follow-up on the Implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, especially the official and informal meetings expected in the coming weeks aimed at creating conditions conducive to the actual and agreed resumption of the implementation of the agreement.”
