Algerian FM Lamamra received by highest Malian authorities in Bamako


ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, was received, Friday in Bamako, by President of the Transition, Head of State of Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta, as part of his working and friendship visit to the Republic of Mali, said the ministry in a statement.

The statement indicated that “Minister Lamamra conveyed to the President of the State of Mali a message from his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the historical relations of good neighborliness, cooperation and solidarity between the two sisterly countries.” He also seized the opportunity to inform the Malian president about the outcome of the 18th Strategic Bilateral Committee held under the co-chairmanship of the two countries’ diplomacy heads and which allowed to address a number of issues of common interest with the aim of strengthening the Algerian-Malian strategic consensus.

Mr. Lamamra was also received by the “President of the National Transitional Council, Mr. Malik Diaw, and the Acting Prime Minister, Mr. Abdullah Maiga”.

The ministry’s statement indicated that “these meetings led to fruitful and in-depth talks on strengthening bilateral partnership in various fields in light of the outcomes of the 18th session of the Strategic Bilateral Committee, as well as on prospects for strengthening joint action for the countries of the region in order to face up to the current challenges in the field of peace, security and development in a comprehensive manner“.

The importance of speeding up the implementation of the peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali stemming from the Algiers process was also highlighted as a key factor in the success of the current transitional phase and the consolidation of long-lasting peace in the country.

After praising the distinguished relations between the two sisterly countries, the higher Malian authorities, led by the President of the Transitional Government, Assimi Goita, especially commended the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his effective solidarity with Mali and his continued commitment to establishing peace and stability at the regional and continental levels.

On another level, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, held, on Saturday, a meeting with members of the national community established in Mali, at the end of his working and friendship visit to the country.

The meeting addressed the concerns of Algerians residing in Mali relating to problems of a consular nature, as well as their initiatives aimed at uniting their efforts for the enrichment of centuries-old relations of good neighbourliness, cooperation and solidarity between the two brotherly peoples. They notably underlined their ambition to further develop trade by facilitating administrative and customs procedures so as to enable them to increase exports of Algerian products to Mali.

In this spirit, members of the community warmly welcomed the imminent reopening of the Algiers-Bamako air line and the other measures recently ordered by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the impact of which will be considerable on Algerian-Malian human and economic exchanges.

For his part, Mr. Lamamra reassured his compatriots of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment towards the national community abroad, which has resulted in strategic orientations aimed at ensuring that their concerns are taken care of to promote their attachment to the motherland as well as their association with the socio-economic development of the country.
