ALGIERS- More than 84 fires have been reported across 14 provinces, according to a report made public by Civil Protection.

Thousands of hectares were, thus, ravaged by the flames in Batna, Bouira, Tizi-Ouzou, Sétif, Skikda, Chlef, Jijel, Boumerdes, El Tarf and Rélizane.

Fifty-five (55) fires were recorded in the wilaya of Bejaïa alone.

For its part, the High Command of the People’s National Army (ANP) mobilized, on Sunday, helicopters belonging to the Air Force to participate in operations to extinguish forest fires at Mount Chenoua, in the wilaya of Tipaza, indicated a press release from the Department of National Defense (DND).

“Following the fires that broke out on August 14, 2022, in the forests of Mount Chenoua, wilaya of Tipaza in the 1st Military Region, the High Command of the People’s National Army mobilized helicopters belonging to the Air Force to participate in the firefighting operations, particularly in inaccessible areas,” the statement said.

The commitment of this type of helicopter “constitutes a great support for the action of the detachments of the People’s National Army on the ground, to put out the fires in the various forest zones and the villages affected. These detachments were able to save and evacuate the families trapped by the fires”, noted the same source.

“In addition to the helicopters deployed for this operation, all human and material resources are made available, including machines and bulldozers. The operation will continue until the fires are completely extinguished,” the statement added.
