Wildfire: “Fire-fighting plan 2022 effectively working,” Premier says


ALGIERS- Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane said, Thursday in Algiers, that the national plan to prevent and control forest fires for 2022 is “effectively” working.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the National Seed Bank, the Premier indicated that the effectiveness of the Plan has resulted in a significant drop in fires and their control nationwide compared to last year.

Welcoming the efforts made by the General Directorate of Forests (DGF) and Civil Protection regarding the rigorous application of the Plan, the Prime Minister invited all the bodies concerned with firefighting to continue the work within the framework of a participatory approach.

In this vein, Mr. Benabderrahmane called for a high level of vigilance until the end of the cereal harvest campaign next September.

“The Plan will continue to operate effectively and proactively, even beyond the month of September, to protect plant cover and agricultural crops in general, and reassure the farmer at the same time”, added the Prime Minister.

Noting that Prime Minister, who was accompanied by members of the Government and the Secretary General of the National Union of Algerian Peasants (UNPA), listened to the explanations provided by the directors of the various Institutes of Agriculture on the agricultural research in the forest and Saharan regions, as well as the livestock activities.
