ALGIERS- Several operations were carried out, on August 03-09, 2022, by detachments and units of the People’s National Army, as part of their noble missions to defend and secure the national territory against all forms of threats, demonstrating the unwavering and unfailing commitment of the Armed Forces to maintain peace and security in the country, said the Ministry of National Defense in a statement.
“As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the ANP arrested 05 elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations carried out across the national territory, while another combined detachments discovered and destroyed, during a search and combing operation in Skikda, a cache containing six (06) homemade bombs”.
“As part of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the intense efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP arrested, in coordination with the various security services at the 2nd and 3rd Military Regions, 08 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce quantities of drugs across the borders with Morocco, amounting to 212 kilograms of treated Hashish,” indicated the press release, adding that “07 other drug traffickers were arrested in possession of 49,286 psychotropic tablets during various operations carried out across different military regions”.
In addition, detachments of the ANP “intercepted, in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam and Djanet, 180 individuals and seized 18 vehicles, 332 generators, 250 jackhammers, 13 tonnes of a mixture of raw gold and stones, as well as detonation tools and equipment used in illicit gold panning operations,” the statement pointed out, noting that “14 other individuals were apprehended and 05 hunting rifles, 01 automatic pistol, 80,519 packets of tobacco, 3,367 units of various drinks, as well as quantities of foodstuffs intended for smuggling amounting to 105 tons were seized in Ouargla, El Oued, Biskra, Sétif, Batna and In Guezzam”.
In the same context, the Border Guards “thwarted, in coordination with the services of the National Gendarmerie, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to 70,866 liters in Tamanrasset, Tébessa, El-Tarf and Souk Ahras,” according to the same source, which added that the Coast Guard” rescued 60 individuals at the level of our national coasts, while 268 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory”.
