Opening ceremony of Islamic Solidarity Games: Algerian premier arrives in Konya

KONYA (Turkey)- The Prime Minister, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane, arrived, Tuesday, in Konya, Turkey, to represent the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games.

KONYA (Turkey)- The Prime Minister, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane, arrived, Tuesday, in Konya, Turkey, to represent the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games.

Mr. Benabderrahmane was received, upon his arrival at Konya International Airport, by the Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, Mehmet Kasapoglu, in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports Abderrazak Sebgag and the Ambassador of Algeria in Turkey, Sofiane Mimouni.

Algeria will partake with 147 athletes including 36 girls in 12 sports disciplines in the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, scheduled on 9-18 August in Konya (Turkey), the head of the Algerian delegation said at a press conference held at the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee Museum in Algiers.

“The Algerian delegation includes 147 athletes, including 36 girls divided into the following disciplines: Athletics (14 boys, 4 girls), Kick-boxing (14 G, 5 F), Karate (8 G, 8 F), Judo (6 G, 7 W), boules sports (13 G, 2 W), raffle (3 G, 3 W), Football (23 players), Wrestling (10 G), Cycling (12 G, 1 W), Weightlifting (4 G, 3 F), swimming (1 swimmer), disabled (13 G, 3 F)”, announced the president of the delegation, Yassine Gouri.

A total of 6,000 athletes from 54 countries will take part in 21 disciplines included in the general program of the 5th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games.

“The total number of the Algerian delegation is 211 individuals, including 50 members of the technical staff of the national federations, and 7 members of the medical staff, as well as 7 executives of the COA, responsible for ensuring good conditions during the stay of Algerian athletes in Turkey”, according to the same official.

Regarding the budget devoted by the Algerian state to the sporting event, the secretary general of the Olympic body (COA), Keireddine Barbari revealed that ten billion centimes have been allocated: “This budget covers sports equipment and transport for the delegation (round trip), as well as travel expenses to Turkey for Algerian athletes in other countries”.

On the medical level, and in order to ensure the safety of the members of the Algerian delegation, Doctor Chouiter assured “that she is in permanent contact with the organizing committee of the Islamic Games in order to put in place a protocol against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic”, ensuring that “the success of this 5th edition also depends on mastering the medical aspect. Each member is required to present the certificate of the health pass, or an attestation justifying the negative results of the anti-Covid-19 analyzes”.

The representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Redha Belakhal, clarified, for his part that “the choice of 12 disciplines in which Algeria participates was made by the sports federations, according to their availability and their degree of preparation”.
