Algeria/Japan: Opportunities for cooperation in renewable energies discussed


ALGIERS – The Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Benattou Ziane, received, on Wednesday in Algiers, the representative of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ryo Tsujii, with whom he discussed opportunities for technical cooperation and partnership in the fields of renewable energies (EnR) and energy efficiency.

According to a press release from the ministry, Mr. Ziane presented, during this meeting, the activity program of his sector which revolves around the national strategy for energy transition and the development of renewable energy and energy control programs, added the same source.

Also, the discussions focused on the development of the renewable energy deployment program which provides for 15,000 MW by 2030.

The discussions also concerned the project of calls for tenders to investors for the construction of photovoltaic solar power plants, spread over the Algerian national territory, addressed to national and foreign investors.

For his part, Mr. Tsujii, accompanied by the adviser in project formulation at JICA level, Usami Satoko, presented the vision of the agency in terms of technical assistance and training.

He also presented JICA’s experience in terms of decarbonization policy, expressing, in this wake, “the availability of the agency to resume cooperation in the field of renewable energies and energy transition with Algeria, through the establishment of areas of cooperation and mutual sharing of expertise and capacity building”.

The two sides expressed their willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation through the technical cooperation program proposed by JICA for the year 2023.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to continue discussions to identify, technically and concretely, areas of cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and sustainable development.
