Energy Minister Arkab launches exploitation works of Gara Djebilet iron mine


TINDOUF-Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab launched, on Saturday, the exploitation works of the Gara Djebilet iron mine (Tindouf), within the framework of his visit to this province.

The launch of the works took place in the western area of ​​Gara Djebilet, where the experimental phase for the exploitation of this mine will take place. Gara Djebilet-Ouest extends over 5,000 ha, i.e. one third of the total area of ​​the mine (15,000 ha). According to the explanations provided to the Minister, the reserves of the western zone are of the order of one billion tons of iron.

The Council of Ministers, held on May 8 under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, approved “the launch of the first phase of the exploitation project of this mine, representing an important source of income for the country and of vital importance in accelerating the pace of local and national development”.

The President of the Republic had ordered the implementation of this “strategic” project according to an “integrated” approach and “in a complementary manner” with the various industrial projects and related infrastructures, and this, within the framework of a defined timetable.

During this visit, Arkab will also inaugurate and launch several projects related to the electricity and gas sector aimed at strengthening and ensuring the supply of this wilaya with energy.
