TIZI-OUZOU – The traditional jewelry festival of Ath Yenni, south of Tizi-Ouzou, which will open next Thursday, will be celebrated this year under the sign of historical authenticity, said the organizers.
This year’s festival, which will welcome between 120 to 140 participants between jewelers and other craftsmen of traditional products, and which will last until August 6th, is placed under the theme “Jewellery of Ath Yenni, Algerianness and authenticity”.
“The choice of the theme is dictated by the necessary reappropriation of this profession and its history as well as the need to address the mechanisms to be implemented for its safeguard”, indicated to the APS, Samy Cherrat, from the organizing committee.
The labeling of jewelry to fight against counterfeiting, and above all, its inclusion in the universal heritage of humanity, will also be discussed during this cultural event.
“We hope to lay, with our partners, the milestones for the secularization of this heritage”, underlined Mr. Cherrat.
It is also planned to address the various constraints faced by jewelers in the exercise of their profession, in particular, tax issues and the availability of raw materials.
Other crafts from different regions of the country will also be present at this cultural rendez-vous, to showcase Algerian richness, such as, among others, Chaoui silver jewellery, the Boumerdes tannery, Tlemcen clothing, Djemaa N’Sharidj basketry and Kabyle dresses of different styles.
A tribute, posthumously, will be paid to late craftsmen, including a former coral cutter, noted Cherrat.
