Counterterrorism, fight against organized crime: Distinct operations with qualitative results (June 22-28)- Full communiqué

ALGIERS- Several operations were carried out, on June 22-28, 2022, by detachments and units of the People’s National Army, as part of their noble missions to defend and secure the national territory against all forms of threats, demonstrating the unwavering and unfailing commitment of the Armed Forces to maintain peace and security in the country, said the Ministry of National Defense in a statement.

“As part of the fight against terrorism “detachments of the ANP arrested 03 elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations carried out across the national territory”.

“As part of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the intense efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP arrested, in coordination with the various security services at the 2nd and 3rd Military Regions, 30 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce huge quantities of drugs across the borders with Morocco, amounting to 11 quintals and 53 kilograms of treated Hashish”, added the same source.

“Nineteen (19) other drug traffickers were arrested in possession of 44 kilograms of the same substance and 173,221 psychotropic tablets during various operations carried out across the military regions,” the statement pointed out.

In addition, ANP detachments “intercepted, in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Djanet and Tindouf, 209 individuals and seized 2 Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, a quantity of ammunition, 9 vehicles, 287 generators, 203 jackhammers, 11 tons of mixture of raw gold and stones, detonation tools and equipment used in illicit gold panning operations”, while “14 other individuals were apprehended and 13 hunting rifles, 13,503 cartridges , 47,820 packets of tobacco, 11,125 units of various drinks and 37 tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling, were seized in Ouargla, El-Oued, In Guezzam, Sétif, Tébessa, Batna, M’Sila and Djelfa”.

In the same context, the Border Guards “thwarted, in coordination with the services of the National Gendarmerie, attempts to smuggle huge quantities of fuel amounting to 52,139 liters in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, El-Oued, Tébessa, El-Tarf and Souk Ahras, while 166 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory”.
