ALGIERS-The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra received, Wednesday, Palestine’s Minister of Social Development, Ahmed Majdalani, who is on a working visit to Algeria under his participation in the General Assembly of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Council and Similar Institution, said the Foreign Ministry in a communiqué.

During the meeting, both sides “reviewed the relations of fraternity, solidarity and militancy linking the two sisterly countries and the two brotherly peoples, in addition to the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, following the aggravation of the situation and the blocking of the peace process,” said the same source.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Majdalani expressed “the recognition and consideration by the Palestinian State, government and people, for the constant and honorable position of Algeria which has never ceased to support the Palestinian cause officially and the right of the Palestinian people to build their independent state on the 1967 borders with El Quds as their capital,” the statement added.

The Palestinian Minister hailed, in this wake, the continuous efforts of Algeria to further strengthen the Palestinian national unity, affirming the adherence of the Palestinian parties concerned to these laudable steps with a view to achieving the expected objectives, added the same communiqué.

For his part, Mr. Lamamra reiterated “Algeria’s attachment to the principles of international legality and its rejection of the logic of double standards, for the management of crises threatening peace and security in the world.”

The Head of Diplomacy also insisted on “the need to place the Palestinian cause at the heart of the priorities of the international community in order to relaunch the peace process and achieve a just and long-lasting solution, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative”.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to continue consultation and coordination as part of the preparations for the next bilateral and multilateral meetings.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Ahmed Majdalani declared that “the first phase of the inter-Palestinian national dialogue that Algeria hosted at the initiative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was crowned with great success”, adding that efforts were continuing to establish a roadmap which will be submitted to the next Arab summit to be hosted by Algeria on November 1 and 2, 2022″.

Also a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the Palestinian official indicated that the next Arab Summit would be “important and central” for the Palestinian side and “we are ensuring the success of this summit, especially since it is a summit of Palestine, at a time when there is an eagerness for normalization” with the Zionist entity.

“This Summit is able to bring the Arab world together on the basis of the Arab peace initiative launched in Beirut in 2002”, he highlighted, underlining the great role of Algeria in supporting the joint Arab action.

In addition, the Palestinian minister announced the participation of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas in the festivities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Independence of Algeria, on the occasion for which, he said, the Palestinian State issue a special postage stamp.
