AU urged to act quickly to save Sahrawi civilians from Moroccan repression

(SPS) - The ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in Ethiopia and its representative to the African Union (AU), Lamine Baali called on the African organization to act urgently to save the Sahrawi civilians from the repression of Moroccan forces and bring the kingdom to respect the resolutions of international legality in Western Sahara.

(SPS) – The ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in Ethiopia and its representative to the African Union (AU), Lamine Baali called on the African organization to act urgently to save the Sahrawi civilians from the repression of Moroccan forces and bring the kingdom to respect the resolutions of international legality in Western Sahara.

Mr. Baali who spoke at a meeting Saturday at the headquarters of the AU Commission, warned of “the serious humanitarian situation prevailing in the Sahrawi territories occupied by Morocco.

“The Kingdom of Morocco is conducting a ferocious campaign against Sahrawi civilians, hence the need to act to bring it to respect the resolutions of international legality in Western Sahara,” said Mr. Abaali.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the latest political and diplomatic developments in the Sahrawi issue, including the conclusions of the last meeting of the Security Council held on April 20, which focused on the report of the UN Special Envoy to Western Sahara, Staffan De Mistura.

The meeting took place with the aim of updating AU officials on political and diplomatic developments in the Sahrawi issue, it should be recalled.
