ALGIERS- President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, called, on Monday, the international community to “accelerate action in order to ensure the necessary protection for Palestinian civilians and their sanctities in accordance with international law.”

The President of the Republic said in a letter he addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, that “this situation obliges the international community to take full responsibility, as it is imperative for it, through the United Nations and the Security Council in particular, to move to ensure the necessary protection for Palestinian civilians and their sanctities under international law,” adding that this requires “warning the occupation forces of the consequences of taking any action that would inflame tensions and continue the cycle of violence.”

“The attacks perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces against the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the violence against the crowds of defenseless worshipers” – President Tebboune says – “remind people once again the systematic violations and slippages of human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

He went on to say: “These dangerous developments, which come in a tense international context, exacerbate instability in the Middle East and further impede access to a just and final solution to the Palestinian issue. Repeatedly, they testify to the oppression of the occupation against Palestinian civilians, who, through their resistance and sacrifices, impose all respect.”

At the same time – the President of the Republic continues – “These tragic and unjustified conditions highlight the inevitability of a peaceful and just solution, which the international community constantly emphasizes, through its keenness on the need to respond to the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is their right to establish their independent national state and its capital Al Qods”.

He added, “This worsening of the situation obliges the international community to take full responsibility, as it must, through the United Nations and the Security Council in particular, expedite action in order to ensure the necessary protection for Palestinian civilians and their sanctities under international law,” stressing that this “requires to warn the occupation forces against the consequences of taking any action that would inflame tensions and perpetuate the cycle of violence.”

In his message, the President of the Republic concluded by saying: “The credibility of the United Nations is often challenged through repeated acts of violence and insistence on imposing a fait accompli, which increases the legitimate concerns of the peoples who believe in a just and coexisting international community. ”

In the face of these abuses suffered by the Palestinian people, the United Nations must respond forcefully to the demand for the right to life and the achievement of justice expressed by peaceful demonstrations. I would like you to pay special attention to these developments and encourage the Security Council to immediately take up these situations of concern in order to take the appropriate measures they require.”
