ALGIERS- The trial of the defendants in the case of the agri-food group “Benamor”, prosecuted for corruption, began, on Wednesday, at the economic and financial penal pole of the tribunal of Sidi M’hamed (Algiers).
Earlier, the trial had been adjourned due to the absence of one of the defendants in this case, the former Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal for health reasons.
Prosecuted in the case of the Benamor group, are several former officials, including former Prime Ministers Ahmed Ouyahia and Abdelmalek Sellal, and the former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Rachid Benaissa. The charges brought against them are squandering public funds, money laundering, obtaining undue advantages and illegal exploitation of agricultural land.
