Justice/Corruption: Verdict of appeal trial of Benhamadi brothers pronounced

ALGIERS - The Attorney General at the Court of Algiers, on Monday, requested sentences ranging from 2 to 10 years in prison and fines against the defendants prosecuted in the case of the subsidiaries of the Benhamadi brothers' Condor group .

ALGIERS – The Attorney General at the Court of Algiers, on Monday, requested sentences ranging from 2 to 10 years in prison and fines against the defendants prosecuted in the case of the subsidiaries of the Benhamadi brothers’ Condor group .

The prosecution requested a 10-year prison sentence accompanied by a fine of 8 million DA against the accused Omar Benhamadi, Abderrahmane and Smaïl Benhamadi, being the main owners of the different subsidiaries of the Benhamadi group.

The Attorney General also requested, against the 63 other defendants, sentences ranging from 2 to 6 years in prison accompanied by fines of 2 million DA for the majority of the defendants prosecuted for squandering of public funds, abuse of office and granting undue advantages.

The prosecution also requested against the companies “Travocovia”, “GB Pharma” and “Altrapco”, the payment of a fine of 40 million DA, with confiscation of all the seized goods and land and movable property as well as the freezing bank accounts.

The Economic and Financial Pole at the tribunal of Sidi M’hamed (Algiers) pronounced, in December 2021, a sentence of five (05) years in prison, two (02) of which were suspended against Omar Benhamadi, accompanied by a fine of one (01) million Da, for concluding illegal contracts and obtaining undue advantages.

Abderrahmane Benhamadi was sentenced to four (04) years in prison, two (02) of which were suspended, together with a fine of one (01) million Da, while Smail Benhamadi received a sentence of two (02) years in prison, accompanied by one (1) million Da.

The companies “Travocovia” and “GB Pharma”, subsidiaries of the Condor group should, each, pay a fine of four (04) million Da and pay in solidum an amount of 10,000 Da to the Public Treasury.
