BOUMERDES – The Criminal Chamber at the Court of Justice of Boumerdes adjourned, Wednesday, to March 2, 2022 the appeal trial of the former Director General of National Security (DGSN), Abdelghani Hamel, his son and former walis as well as former executives of the wilaya of Tipasa, prosecuted for several charges, including “misappropriation of agricultural land” and “abuse of office”.
The adjournment of the trial in this case, reopened after an appeal in cassation lodged with the Supreme Court, is due to the absence of the main defendant, namely; Abdelghani Hamel who is hospitalized given his infection with the Covid-19.
The appeal trial was entered on the roll for the first time on September 22 before being adjourned successively to October 27, November 24, December 15 and January 19 to be adjourned again to March 2, 2022.
The Boumerdes Tribunal of First Instance delivered its verdict, in this case, on June 4, 2020, sentencing the former DGSN, Abdelghani Hamel and the former wali of Tipasa Moussa Ghelai to twelve years (12 years) in prison.
It also confirmed the sentence of 10 years in prison against each of the ex-walis of Tipasa, Kadi Abdelkader and Layadi Mustapha, as well as the sentence of three (3) years in prison against Chafik Hamel (son of the former DGSN ) and Salim Djai Djai, ex-chief of security in the wilaya of Tipasa.
The same tribunal pronounced, in the same case, a 4-year suspended prison sentence against the former Minister of Finance, Hadji Baba Ammi, and 5 years in prison against the former director of the Tipasa estates, Ali Bouamrane.
A sentence of two (2) years in prison was pronounced against the former Director of Industry and Mines of Tipasa, Haddou Abderrezak, and the former Land Registrar of Koléa, Mohamed Bouamama, in addition to a year in prison against the private investor Zerad Abdelhakim.
The former Director General of Domains, Kheznadji Djamel was acquitted.
The defendants in this case are being prosecuted for several charges, including “embezzlement of agricultural land”, “abuse of office”, and “influence peddling”.
