Former player of FLN football team, Abdelhamid Zouba, passes away


ALGIERS- Former FLN national football team player and national coach Abdelhamid Zouba died, on Wednesday evening, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MJS) announced in a statement posted on its official Facebook page.

Abdelhamid Zouba, born on April 2, 1935, began his football career with ASSE club in his birth district. He then embarked on a professional career in France with the Niort club (1955-1958), before joining the glorious FLN football team.

After independence, he played in several teams, before hanging up his boots and embarking on a coaching career.

As a coach, Abdelhamid Zouba had led the technical bar of several clubs in Algeria and abroad. He had his hour of glory by leading MC Algiers to a historic treble in 1976: Championship – Algerian Cup – African Cup of Champions Clubs.

He led the Mouloudia of Algiers as a worthy successor to Smail Khabatou, and succeeded in snatching, in Africa in December 1976, for a first participation, the African cup of champion clubs, current champions league.
