Counterterrorism, fight against organized crime: Distinct operations with qualitative results (Jan 26-Feb 1)


ALGIERS- Eight (08) elements supporting terrorist groups were arrested, in separate operations, across the national territory, carried out by detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP), an operational report of the ANP indicated on Wednesday .

“As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army arrested (08) elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory,” said the same source.

In the “dynamics of continuous efforts” in the fight against terrorism and against multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army carried out, during the period from January 26 to February 1, 2022, several operations with qualitative results were carried out reflecting the high professionalism, vigilance and permanent availability of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory”, added the same source.

As part of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the intense efforts aimed at countering the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP arrested, in coordination with the various security services at the level of the 2nd and 3rd Military Regions, 15 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce quantities of drugs across the borders with Morocco, amounting to 10 quintals and 53 kilograms of treated Hashish, while 22 other drug traffickers were arrested and 25 kilograms of the same substance and 355,464 psychotropic tablets were seized during various operations carried out across the other Military Regions.

In addition, ANP detachments intercepted 58 individuals in Tamanrasset, In Guezzam, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Djanet and Tindouf and seized 11 vehicles, 225 generators, 86 jackhammers, 3 metal detectors, quantities of explosives , detonation tools and other equipment used in illicit gold panning operations, as well as 10 tonnes of a mixture of raw gold and stones, while 13 other individuals were apprehended in possession of 8 hunting rifles, 2 automatic pistols, 51 tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and 10,372 units of tobacco seized in Ouargla, In Guezzam, El-Oued, Biskra, Djelfa, Ménéa, Batna and Tizi Ouzou.

In the same context, the Border Guards thwarted attempts to smuggle quantities of fuel amounting to 4,990 liters in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Tébessa, El-Tarf and Souk Ahras, while 109 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested in Tlemcen, Tamanrasset, Adrar, Ouargla and In-Amenas.
