Algerian FM Lamamra holds consultative meetings with counterparts in Addis Ababa, views on regional, int’l issues exchanged

ADDIS ABABA- Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, held in Addis Ababa consultative meetings with his counterparts from Libya, South Africa, and Angola.

These meetings, which are being held on the eve of the works of the 40th ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), enabled the three parties to “review the dossiers on the agenda of the 40th session of the Executive Council, particularly those related to political files and issues of peace and security in Africa, with a view to coordinating their positions,” said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

The meetings were also an opportunity to discuss the main challenges facing the African continent in light of growing security threats, governance issues and unconstitutional changes, in addition to the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 on the economic and health situation”, added the same source.

During his meeting with his Libyan counterpart, Najla Mangoush, “both sides discussed the fraternal relations between the two sisterly countries and brotherly peoples, the evolution of the situation in Libya and the prospects for breaking the current impasse for the relaunch of the political process of resolving the crisis,” the statement pointed out.

On this occasion, Mr. Lamamra reaffirmed “Algeria’s unwavering and permanent support for the Libyans”, stressing the importance of “working to boost the Libyan national reconciliation process, which is capable of strengthening national unity and to prepare the ground in order to reach a consensus on the issues of disagreement between the Libyan brothers”.

For her part, the Libyan minister reiterated “her country’s consideration for Algeria’s united and favorable position and its tireless efforts aimed at making the supreme interest of the Libyan people prevail”.

In this respect, the Libyan minister hailed the Algerian approach and its efforts aimed at bringing together the conditions necessary for the success of the Arab summit.
