ALGIERS- The elections of the members of the High Judicial Council (CSM) will take place on December 20, indicated the ministry of Justice on its electronic website.
The High Judicial Council is composed of the first president of the Supreme Court, as vice-president, the president of the Council of State and 15 magistrates elected by their peers according to the following distribution: three (3) magistrates of the Supreme Court, three ( 3) magistrates of the Council of State and three (3) others from the courts of justice.
It is also made up of “three (3) magistrates of administrative jurisdictions other than the Council of State, and three (3) magistrates of the courts of the ordinary judicial order”, specified the ministry.
The council is also made up of “six (6) personalities selected for their competence outside the body of the judiciary, including two chosen by the President of the Republic, two (2) others by the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN ) apart from the deputies, two (2) others chosen by the Speaker of the Council of Nation apart from the senators, in addition to two magistrates who are members of the trade union section, as well as the president of the Human Rights Council (CNDH)” , added the Ministry of Justice.
Chaired by the President of the Republic, the High Judicial Council is the guarantor of the independence of the judiciary.
