ALGIERS- Several operations were carried out by detachments and units of the People’s National Army in one week, (November 17-23), as part of their noble missions to defend and secure the national territory against all forms of threats, which demonstrate the unwavering and unfailing commitment of the Armed Forces to maintain peace and security in the country, said the Army in a statement.
As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army arrested (04) elements supporting the terrorist groups in separate operations conducted across the national territory, while another detachment of the ANP discovered and destroyed (05) terrorists’ caches, (21) homemade bombs and (81) kilograms of explosive substances during a search and combing operation in Boumerdes.
As part of the fight against organized crime and in the dynamics of intense efforts to thwart the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the People’s National Army arrested, in coordination with the various security services in the country at the level of the territories of the 2nd and 3rd Military Regions, (09) drug traffickers and foiled attempts to introduce immense quantities of drugs via the borders with Morocco, amounting to (19) quintals and (46) kilograms of treated Hashish, while (25) other drug traffickers were arrested in their possession (211) kilograms of the same substance and (35,594) psychotropic tablets seized in various operations carried out across the other Military Regions.
In addition, detachments of the People’s National Army intercepted, in Tamanrasset, In Guezzam, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Djanet and Tindouf, (247) individuals and seized one (01) Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, (05) ammunition loaders, (21) vehicles, (259) generators, (182) jackhammers, (05) metals detectors, quantities of explosives, detonation tools and other equipment used in illicit gold mining operations, as well as that (53) tons of mixture of raw gold and stones, while (10) other individuals were arrested, (18) hunting rifles, (28) tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and (46) quintals of tobacco were seized in Batna, Sétif, Tiaret, Adrar, Biskra and Laghouat. Likewise, attempts to smuggle quantities of fuel amounting to (10,273) liters were foiled in Tébessa, El-Tarf, Souk Ahras and Tindouf.
In another context, the Coast Guard foiled, at the level of our national coasts, attempts of illegal immigration and rescued (231) individuals aboard craft-built boats, while (58) illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested in Ghardaïa, Djanet, Tlemcen, Mascara and Béchar.
