ALGIERS – The Council of the Nation participated in a round table organized by the Coalition of Arab Women Parliamentarians against Violence against Women on the theme “Political participation of women in North Africa: opportunities and challenges”, reported, Wednesday, a statement from the upper house of parliament.

The Council of the Nation was represented at the work of this round table, held by videoconference, by the senator and member of the Coalition of Arab Women Parliamentarians against Violence Against Women, Nouara Saâdia Djaâfar, added the same source.

During this meeting, the Arab parliamentarians discussed “the participation of Arab women in political life and the mechanisms capable of promoting this participation and smoothing out the difficulties which hinder the empowerment of women and limit their contribution to political life, development and decision-making “.

Presenting the different stages of the process of empowerment of women in Algeria, Ms. Djaâfar maintained that “constant constitutional bases enshrine, in Algeria, gender equality and provide for the promotion of women’s rights and strengthening their participation in politics and socio-economic development “.

“Promoting women’s political participation is a constant constitutional choice,” she said.

The senator also called for the intensification of efforts and the strengthening of awareness of the central role of women in any national and Arab development process.
