ALGIERS- The destruction of the building under construction on a partially collapsed cliff in Bir-Mourad Raïs, following the heavy rains, is recommended, the president of the Algerian club of major risks, Abdelkrim Chelghoum, informed, Sunday in Algiers.

Guest of the Algerian Radio, Mr. Chelghoum estimated that no other alternative than destroying the building, is available.

He stressed that this real estate, with seven floors above ground and four to five floors below ground, “should never have been built on this site and that the building permit should not have been delivered”.

Mr Chelghoum urged the public authorities to proceed with the “dismemberment” of the building in “an intelligent technical way so as not to affect the environment and the neighborhood”.

He, finally, estimated that “it is high time to review the responsibilities of each other, and supervise the institutions which should manage major natural and technological disasters”.

Tuesday evening, a rocky collapse of a cliff topped with a construction, at the level of the passenger transport station of Bir-Mourad Rais was recorded. Following this, the services of the wilaya of Algiers temporarily closed the transport station to protect citizens.

With regard to building, an expertise has been engaged by the relevant services of the CTC of Algiers to assess the risks, according to the Public Works Department.

The same services explained that “the passenger transport station has been transferred to the adjacent street with prohibition for other vehicles to use this lane”.

In addition, the parallel road leading to Avenue Mohamedi has been transformed into two-lane road.

Orientation signs have been put in place to facilitate movement, in addition to the mobilization of police officers.
