ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra declared that Algerian diplomacy is practicing a policy based on principles and commitment through its participation in various international organizations and forums, such as; the summit of the League of Arab States and the African Union.

During a press conference he held after the conclusion of the Conference of Heads of Diplomatic and Consular Missions held in Algeria under the slogan “Algerian diplomacy and international challenges for the new Algeria,” Lamamra stated, “We are practicing with the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, a policy of principle and commitment.”

In the same context, the head of the Algerian diplomacy said: “We assume the responsibilities of our country and do so in a spirit of responsibility, solidarity and understanding with those with whom we have different interests.”

On the other hand, Ramtane Lamamra indicated that Algeria “respects the independence of others and supports the principle of equality between peoples and their right to dispose of their own affairs.”

He also went on to say, “We do not seek to impose our point of view, we just want all actors to respect international law like we do,” affirming, “Algeria has no problem in expressing its opinion in all openness and transparency,” describing Algeria’s diplomacy as “clear.”

In this regard, Ramtane Lamamra stated, “Anyone can expect in some circumstances the way we will respond, because our reactions are not improvised, but rather based on our principles, history and commitments.”

He added, “When we defend principles, we move away from extremism and try to do so in a constructive manner because we believe in the values of peaceful coexistence, good harmonious interaction and respect for all.”

In this regard, the head of the Algerian diplomacy stressed that “Algeria will never accept expansionism, state terrorism, and the illegal occupation of the lands of others (…), especially in our region and in our immediate neighbourhood.”

Lamamra considered that “the international situation is turbulent and the fundamentals are destabilizing,” regretting the improvisation and reversal of commitments and utilitarian positions.

He also regretted the hasty reactions that do not take into account the historical perspective. In this regard, he said, “We are witnessing the destruction of the Maghreb, even though the fate of our peoples dictates the necessity of strengthening this utilitarian approach.”
