Cooperation: Algerian FM holds talks with Italian counterpart

ALGIERS- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra held, this Saturday, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Luigi Di Maio, as part of the visit of State to Algeria, carried out by the Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

“The two ministers reviewed the privileged bilateral relations uniting the two brotherly countries,” said a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On this occasion, the two parties discussed “the next bilateral meetings within the framework of common efforts aimed at consolidating the strategic partnership and strengthening the relations of cooperation in accordance with the Treaty of riendship, good neighborliness and cooperation between the two countries “.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged “views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, including the political and security situations in Libya and Western Sahara”.

The Italian president is on a two-day state visit to Algeria, at the head of an important delegation.

The Italian President was received, at Houari Boumediene International Airport, by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The guest of Algeria was also received by the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Brahim Boughali, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, Aïmene Benabderrahmane, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra and the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, Lieutenant-General Saïd Chanegriha.

President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune held, Saturday in Algiers, a one-on-one meeting with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, on a two-day State visit to Algeria.

These discussions were later extended to the delegations of the countries.

At the end of the talks that took place at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, three agreements were signed by the two sides, relating to education, justice and heritage protection sectors.

In this vein, President Tebboune underlined a convergence of views between Algeria and Italy on all the issues of common interest, affirming that the relations between the two countries are “strong” and will be “strengthened in the very near future.”

“We have agreed on everything,” President of the Republic told the press following a meeting with his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella, on a State visit to Algeria.

Holding a joint press briefing with Mattarela, President Tebboune affirmed that the relations between the two countries are “strong and will be strengthened in the very near future.”

On this occasion, he noted a convergence of views between Algeria and Italy in the economic cooperation, notably in the field of small and medium-sized enterprises.

In this respect, President Tebboune said he is “optimistic” that the next Algerian-Italian High Committee meeting will culminate in “positive results that could be applied on the ground.”

Concerning the strengthening of the Algerian industry, notably that related to the small and medium-sized enterprises, he pointed out that two deputy ministers have already gone to Italy, namely those of small-scale industry and of startups.

President Tebboune hailed the strong friendship relations between the two countries, pointing out that these relations are “very long-standing” and had strengthened during the national liberation war, without forgetting the aid Italy provided to Algeria during the black decade, “one of the rare countries that supported us” at that time, he said.

President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune said he broached with his Italian counterpart regional and international issues of common interest, pointing out a convergence of views notably on the Libyan issue.

The Presidency of the Republic announced, Friday, that the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will be on a state visit to Algeria on 6-7 November, leading a large delegation.»

According to the same source, this visit falls within the framework of “strengthening the partnership and the close cooperation between the two friendly countries, and opening new horizons for the benefit of the two peoples.”
