Algeria condemns terrorist attacks in Niger, here is full communiqué

ALGIERS- Algeria has strongly condemned the terrorist attacks perpetrated, Tuesday and Thursday, against civilians and soldiers in Niger, causing dozens of deaths and injuries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community said, Saturday, in a communiqué.

“Algeria condemns, in the strongest terms, the terrorist attacks perpetrated on November 2 and 4, 2021, against civilians and soldiers, respectively in the commune of Banibangou, in the three border zone located in the region of Tillabéri and in the commune of Anzourou, in western Niger, near the Malian border, causing dozens of deaths and injuries, ”the ministry’s statement reads.

“In these painful circumstances, Algeria offers its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, while reiterating its full solidarity with Niger’s Government and the brotherly people. It expresses its firm attachment to the preservation of the stability of Niger and assures it full support for the common fight against terrorism “, adds the same source.

The ministry underlines that “Algeria is convinced that Niger’s government and people will be able to overcome this difficult ordeal and continue the promising work of development in which they have invested”.

“These repeated criminal attacks, which take on the proven characteristics of crimes against humanity, deeply concern Algeria, which calls for a firm and effective reaction on the part of the African Union, as well as the international community as a whole” , stresses the ministry.

“It is, therefore, strongly aware of these dangers and of the imperative need to face them jointly that Algeria underlines the urgency of an increased mobilization against this scourge, in particular by reinforcing the many instruments as well as the architecture of peace and security that our respective countries, the Regional Economic Communities, the Regional Mechanisms and our Continental Organization have put in place, and adapting to the new threats of which the terrorism is the bearer, ”the press release concludes.
