ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra affirmed, Tuesday, that the Algerian strategy is based on “indivisible security, peace and development,” pointing out that the partnership with the European Union (EU) should “strengthen the foundations of human and socio-economic development, good governance and promotion of national reconciliation.”

Speaking in the 2nd AU-EU Joint Ministerial Meeting in Kigali (Rwanda), Lamamra emphasized Algeria’s strategy based on “indivisible security, peace and development,” according to a statement of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Lamamra pointed out that the partnership with EU “should strengthen the foundation of human and socio-economic development, good governance and promotion of the national reconciliation, mapped out and implemented by the African States, through the double equation combining unity/ diversity and centre/environment.

In this respect, he said that the partnership between the two unions “must emanate from the conviction of common security, the two sides have to fully and equitably assume their individual and collective responsibilities,” added the source.

Africa “is open to all the partnerships to which it has been invited and preserving its interests,” he added, calling EU’s countries “to acknowledge the diversity of Africa’s partnerships with the other countries, and to consider them as a natural and positive phenomenon.”

Lamamra said that “Africa acknowledges the partnership with EU, through which it aspires to achieve qualitative and quantitative results to reach the expected degree of perfection.”

Concerning migration, the Algerian head of diplomacy said that this issue “requires a comprehensive and long-term approach which deals with the deep causes of the phenomenon in compliance with the international law to protect the migrants and the members of their families.”
