Algerian FM : “Very deserved election of Professor Belhocine as Commissioner of AU reflects respect shown by African countries to Algeria”

ALGIERS- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra said, Wednesday, in Algiers, that the election of Professor Mohamed Belhocine as the new AU Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation at the African Union (AU) reflected the respect that African countries have for Algeria.

ALGIERS- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra said, Wednesday, in Algiers, that the election of Professor Mohamed Belhocine as the new AU Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation at the African Union (AU) reflected the respect that African countries have for Algeria.

Meeting with Mr. Belhocine, Mr. Lamamra said that the election of the Algerian candidate, in a vote held during the meeting of the Executive Council of the AU was “very deserved, being the best candidate who obtained a result reflecting the respect that African countries pay to Algeria, president, government and people.

This victory, he added, “also reflects the recognition of the competence and qualities of Professor Belhocine, which was nominated for this position by President Tebboune, following which the Algerian diplomacy has conducted the diplomatic action required for its promotion and has worked to gather the votes to achieve, in a secret ballot, the majority of two thirds of the members of the AU.

Congratulating Professor Belhocine on behalf of the President of the Republic, the government and Algerian diplomacy for this brilliant success, the Minister said that Algeria, an active member of the AU, will be at his side to support him in the management of programs and activities of this important and vital sector within the AU.
