ALGIERS- The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelbaki Benziane, gave, today, Sunday, the official launch for the 2021-2022 university season from the Graduate School of Commerce at the University Pole in Kolea (Tipaza governorate).
The Minister was accompanied by a number of members of the Government as he supervised the start of the new university year, during which 1,696,000 students were enrolled, including 345,872 new students.
To this end, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has resorted to update the preventive health protocol to confront Covid-19 pandemic amid growing risk of spreading the infection.
In order to make the new academic year a success, the Ministry has strengthened the human and material framework to reach a qualitative training, knowing that the beginning of the lessons started remotely since the third of October.
In anticipation of this date, the ministry ensures the continuous evaluation of the teaching experience within the system of duplication in the pattern of attendance and distance education imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic, based on the mandatory attendance for the basic and methodological units and the adoption of the distance education pattern for the incidental and exploratory units.
It should be noted that the sector is supported this year by the receipt of 20,200 new educational seats, which will raise the total reception capacity to 1,471,000 educational seats, as well as the receipt of 21,170 beds across several provinces, which will raise the capacity of accommodation to 671,000 beds.
With regard to pedagogical supervision, the sector benefited from 1,400 new positions to hire assistant professors, grade B, while exploiting vacant positions for the year 2020, in addition to allocating 1,655 positions to hire assistant professors, grade B, which has strengthened the current capabilities of pedagogical supervision, which amounted to more than 500 65 research professors, i.e. an average of one professor for every 25 students.
The sector was also strengthened by the opening of the first higher school for mathematics and another for artificial intelligence, and the reception of the first batch of 200 students each.
With regard of doctoral phase, the Ministry decided to conduct a thorough and in-depth evaluation of the efficacy of training in this phase, especially with regard to the number of annual registrations, job niches for PhD holders, and the high cost of this training.
In view of this, a thinking committee has been set up that will present the results of its work, later, and in light of this, it will determine the approach that will be adopted in the modalities of preparing training offers in the doctorate and determine the number of positions.
It is noteworthy that the total budget for scientific research is approximately 9 billion DA allocated to fund scientific research centers and various research projects, in addition to launching national research programs estimated at 150 projects for the current year, which are allocated to priority areas (citizen health, food security and energy security).
