Forest Fires: 30 individuals, including 7 members of “MAK” terrorist movement, remanded in custody

ALGIERS – Investigations, by the judicial police, into forest fires resulted in the arrest and provisional detention of thirty (30) suspects, including seven (7) members of the “MAK” terrorist movement, an official press release from the National Gendarmerie (NG) said on Wednesday.

The investigations of the judicial police into forest fires “concerned 387 fires across 14 wilayas of the country”. They resulted in the arrest and provisional detention, after their presentation before the competent tribunals, of thirty (30) suspects, including seven (7) members of the “MAK” terrorist movement who were transferred to the criminal center of Sidi M’hamed. Five (5) individuals were placed under judicial control, “said the same source.

The inquiries, also, resulted in “the arrest of four (4) suspects in the case of the video spreading false information about the fires,” the statement added.

“Investigations are still underway to identify all those involved,” pointed out the National Gendarmerie, calling on citizens to, actively, participate in the fight against the various forms of crimes and to report any criminal act via the toll-free number 1055 placed at their disposal, in addition to the website dedicated to pre-complaints (PPGN.MDN.DZ) or by contacting the nearest NG unit “.
