ALGIERS- Five terrorist supporters were arrested by detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP) during the period from 6 to 18 July, following distinct operations conducted nationwide, said the ANP in an operational report.
“As part of the fight against terrorism, combined detachments of the ANP have apprehended (5) elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory”, specified the same report.
According to the same source, “14 drug traffickers were arrested, during the same period, in the territories of the 2nd and 3rd Military Regions, by combined detachments of the ANP, in coordination with the various security services.
The communiqué, also, reported “the seizure of 10 quintals and 52.2 kilograms of treated Hashish as well as 7.7 kilograms of cocaine that the criminal gangs tried to introduce across the borders with Morocco, while 20 other drug traffickers were arrested and 51,723 psychotropic tablets were seized, in various operations carried out across the various military regions “.
These operations were carried out “within the framework of the fight against organized crime and in the dynamics of the intense efforts aimed at thwarting the scourge of drug trafficking in Algeria”, underlined the balance sheet.
In another context, “detachments of the ANP intercepted, in Tamanrasset, In-Guezzam, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Djanet, 263 individuals and seized 38 vehicles, 101 generators, 59 jackhammers, (2) metal detectors as well as that 62.2 tons of mixture of raw gold and stones, explosives and detonation tools and other equipment used in illegal mining operations “.
In addition, “11 hunting rifles and 7,000 units of various drinks were seized during separate operations carried out in El Oued, Biskra, Tébessa, Oum El-Bouaghi and Bordj Bou Arreridj”.
Likewise, “attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to 44,370 liters were foiled in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Tamanrasset, Tébessa, El Tarf and Souk-Ahras”.
In addition, “attempts of clandestine emigration of 36 individuals aboard craft-built boats in Oran and Annaba were foiled by the Coast Guard, while 329 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were apprehended in Tlemcen, Ghardaïa, El-Bayadh, Adrar, Djanet and Bechar, “the statement pointed out.
“These multiple operations, carried out by detachments and units of the ANP as part of their noble missions of defense and securing the national territory against all forms of threats, testify to the infallible commitment of our Armed Forces to preserve peace and security in our country “, underlined the same source.
