ALGIERS – The Ministry of National Education assured, Saturday, June 19th, 2021, that all the conditions were met for a smooth running of the baccalaureate exam in “serenity and seriousness”, calling on students to “show serenity and self-confidence and reject all behaviors that could undermine their efforts for success.”
In a statement on the eve of organizing the baccalaureate exam, the Ministry of Education reassured the candidates that “all conditions are met to take this decisive exam in serenity, seriousness and perseverance they showed throughout the school year and focus on their desired goals to enter the vast and multidisciplinary space of higher education.”
The ministry called on candidates to show “vigilance, caution and a sense of responsibility, by not to be deceived by what is promoted on social media such as publishing, circulating, or leaking fake topics or answers, of which they are the victims, in order to disturb their focus and state of mind to deal a blow to the credibility of the certificate they prepared for.”
The Ministry of Education stated the need to “respect the procedures in place in the exam centers to ensure the proper conduct of the exam and to avoid bringing, carrying, or using any means, whether traditional or modern, such as remote communication, especially mobile phones.”
It also called on parents, in particular, and members of the educational community in general, to “engage strongly in sensitization and awareness-raising processes in order to contribute to providing a positive atmosphere for candidates and thwart the plot of those who seek to jeopardize their future.”
The ministry indicated that compromising the integrity of the exams is an act punishable by the Penal Code, “particularly Articles 253 bis and 253 bis 7, (Law No. 06-20 of April 28, 2020).”
The ministry added that legal procedures are “in force”, in addition to the “administrative and disciplinary measures adopted in this regard for all official exams.”
Welcoming the efforts made by all actors in the sector (teachers, inspectors, directors, administrators and workers), the social partners (parents of pupils and approved unions) as well as by all ministerial sectors and local and central public authorities, the ministry of National Education affirmed that it ensures all the material and human conditions necessary for the success of the 2020-2021 baccalaureate exam in order to establish equality of opportunity for all candidates, while ensuring the credibility and the smooth running of this exam.
Minister of the National Education Mohamed Ouadjoaut, on Sunday, gave the official start of the Baccalaureate examination for 2020-2021 school year in the secondary school Ali Boussehaba, in the commune of Draria (west of Algiers).
More than 731,000 students on Sunday, June 20th, 2021, sit the baccalaureate exam which will last for five days.
The public authorities have taken all the necessary organization and security measures to ensure the success of this important examination.
According to the figures provided by the National Office for Examinations and Competitions (ONEC), the number of candidates sitting for this exam, scheduled for June 20 to 24, stands at 731,723, including 459,545 schooled candidates (180,833 boys and 278,712 girls) and 272,178 free ones (140,099 boys and 132,079 girls).
Also, 5,084 inmates will take the baccalaureate exams, an increase of 59% compared to the previous session (2020). These are 4,977 male inmates and 107 fmales spread across 47 penitentiary establishments approved by the Ministry of National Education as examination centers.
As long as the correction centers are concerned, they will open their doors from July 1 until July 19, added ONEC. A single national center will be mobilized for the announcement of the results.
As a reminder, the success rate of the BAC / session 2020 had reached 55.30%.
For the internet shut down, the Ministry of National Education announced on Friday, June 18, 2021, its decision not to block social media websites and shut down internet service during the baccalaureate exam, which will begin June 20, 2021.
For the first time after 5 years of application of the same procedure, the Ministry announced the installation of a “vigilance cell”, which will control the various websites and social networks including Facebook with a view to flashing out and identifying the people responsible for the topics’ leak.
Earlier, Algeria used to block internet in an attempt to prevent cheating in high school exams known as the Baccalaureate exams, after massive online leaks of the baccalaureate topics in the previous years.
