Leader of the Swedish Green Party, and head of the 100 leading women group at the international level, Bodil Valero, affirmed today, Tuesday, in an interview with the website “Western Sahara 24”, that her party and the Green Movement at the global level generally support the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination by organizing a referendum and reject the continuation of the Moroccan military occupation of Western Sahara.

Bodil indicated that her country, despite adopting a good position on the Sahrawi issue, has not been able under the rule of the Socialist Party to come up with tougher positions against the Moroccan occupation due to the French and Spanish influence on the European Union’s orientations so far.

Regarding the Moroccan regime’s blackmail towards the European Union and its instrumentalization of the phenomenon of immigration in order to force positions that support its expansionist policy in Western Sahara, Bodil stressed that this Moroccan policy is not new, and it is a well-known and exposed method that Morocco has been following for years towards the European space, highlighting that the European Union reliance on Morocco to protect its borders is unacceptable.

It is worth noting that Bodil Valero is a Swedish politician, lawyer and leader in the Swedish Environment Party “The Greens” and a member of the Swedish Parliament from 2006-2014, and a member of the European Union Parliament for the Green Party between 2014-2019.

She is mainly active in the field of human rights, women’s rights and foreign policy, and most of the political activities and tasks assigned to her are related to the files of migration, support and aid, peace and security promotion, hotbeds of tension and conflicts, arms exports as well as the support for peoples’ right to self-determination.
