Electoral campaign launched, three months after Lower House dissolution

In this vein, the President of the Independent National Authority for Elections, Mohamed Charfi, said that “heads of political parties and representatives of independents lists nominated in the provinces in the legislative elections statements expressed during the signing ceremony of the golden register of the ethic code for electoral practice fall in the success process of the June 12th elections.

Speaking at “Interview TV” program on Channel News Three, Charfi said “Heads of political parties are aware that the next parliament will stem from the will of people and choice of the citizens that will provide it the legitimacy to be in the power balance in Algeria.

Charfi expressed his conviction that the electoral campaign will be different from the previous ones and will witness the birth of a new style in political practice in Algeria.

Regarding the violations that may occur during the election campaign, Charfi considered that building a political edifice does not depend on the strictness of the law only, but on persuasion and on dealing to reach consensus between all competitors of different orientations, adding that the Independent National Elections Authority seeks to conduct the election campaign in the context of mutual respect between all the candidates.

Regarding the organization of the election campaign in the halls, Charfi affirmed that the list of halls was requested by the Independent National Elections Authority from administrative authorities, adding that every province’s coordinator of the authority has a naming list of halls eligible to host candidates’ rallies.

In this context, candidates can apply to the coordinator for a license to hold a rally in any hall of his province, and that if there is more than one request, the coordinator can draw lots between the candidates or leave them free to agree by mutual consent as a procedure that the Independent National Elections Authority seeks to spread the democratic spirit between the candidates.

Regarding local candidates rallies, the head of the Independent National Elections Authority confirmed that the decision due to the Corona pandemic has not yet been decided.
