New cases of India-based variant, borders closure, Sputnik V vaccine… Health Minister’s declarations

Visiting the Boufarik hospital in Blida on the occasion of the celebration of Eid El Fitr, the Minister revealed that the scientific committee recommends permiting Algerian and foreign nationals to enter Algeria, under certain conditions.

The Pasteur Institute of Algeria (IPA) announced on Monday, May 03, 2021 that it had detected 06 cases of India-based variant of the coronavirus in Algeria. They are Indian workers, the Institute’s CEO explained.

The number of cases of the Indian variant in Algeria, thus, reaches 20 cases. According to the latest report from the Institute of Pasteur, the total number of cases of contaminations with the British and Nigerian variants amounted to 416 cases, including 180 cases of the British variant, 230 cases of the Nigerian strain.

Production of Sputnik V as of September, according to Benbouzid

In addition, the Minister of Health announced that the scientific committee recommended allowing Algerians and foreigners to return to Algeria under certain conditions. Abderahmane Benbouzid cited, in particular, a P.C.R. test of less than 36 hours.

The same official said that production of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in Algeria will start from next September.

He, also, recalled receiving further doses of the vaccine this month.
